Media Assistant (part-time) – Syrian Arab Republic


The position is to be filled by October 1, 2022, with a 1-year contract. The place of employment/duty will be in Afrin – with frequent visits to field offices in Syria (Azaz, Idlib) as requested by project management. The position is remunerated according to 50% of the SG5 [[paygrade]].

The part-time work methodology will be four hours of work per day from 08:00 to 12:00, sometimes depending on the activities and location of the project, the schedule of four hours of work can be flexible accordingly. Based on experience and funds, the contract could become full-time to cover WHH activities in AlDana-Idleb in the future.

Through direct implementation and local partners, Welthungerhilfe has been implementing protection integrated multi-cluster projects focusing on FLS, early recovery, agriculture, SNFI, WASH and Shelter in Idlib and Aleppo since 2017. The outreach worker (OW) will be based in A’zaz and Afrin and will be part of the mobile protection office.

Reporting directly to the Communications Manager and Project Manager based in Gaziantep, the Media Assistant is responsible for gathering media raw materials of photos and videos and editing them in accordance with WHH policy, identifying humanitarian stories and preparing the right storytelling product in advocacy for the humanitarian situation.

. The Media Assistant will cover the required graphic design and poster work at the project site (Afrin) working under part-time contract. your responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of WHH visibility guidelines, under the guidance of the Communications Expert.
  • Conceptualize, develop and package information and promotional material about WHH’s work for external audiences and donors (e.g. brochures, program summaries, information kits, videos, photos, etc.)
  • Under the direction of the Communications Expert, support the development and/or formatting of internal communications materials, including templates, documents, status updates, reports, etc.
  • Support the in collecting and producing human interest stories, photographs and video clips for projects and partners.
  • Support the development and/or formatting of internal communication materials, infographics, including templates, documents, site maps, reports, etc.
  • Writing and producing communication materials (human interest stories, photos, videos) for use in WHH’s internal and external communication channels.
  • Translate programmatic material between English and Arabic, as required.
  • Support event planning and implementation
  • Support Turkey IT Manager and Communication Expert in managing WHH website content
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Your profile

  • Position open to Syrian nationals only

  • Education: University degree / Degree in Journalism or Communication, Communication for Development, Social Sciences or related field from an accredited academic institution, with three years of relevant professional experience; or Completed high school diploma, with three years of relevant work experience in the skills listed below.

  • Professional experience: Professional experience of at least one year in a similar position, covering media activities in a humanitarian context.

  • Skills/Knowledge:

  • Proven experience in the field of communication and media, preferably with a development NGO

  • Proven experience with photography and videography skills, MS Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and desktop publishing software, graphic design knowledge and skills an asset.

  • Excellent proficiency in the use of Adobe Premier Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, Audition and proficiency in Illustrator, InDesign

  • Experience in designing publications, developing promotional materials including photo shop, infographics, etc.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and familiarity with the use of social media

  • Knowledge of the technical aspects involved in the production of various public IEC materials.

  • Willingness to take on duties and responsibilities in all areas of communications as required

  • Ability to work in a team.

    • Language skills:
      • Fluency in Arabic is required. *
      • A working knowledge of English is required.
  • Knowledge of the local context: Candidates who have work experience and knowledge of the local context in A’zaz and/or Afrin are preferred.

Media will be required to maintain confidentiality regarding all information obtained in the course of their work during employment with Welthungerhilfe and thereafter.
