WHEREAS, the Statute of Alaska recognizes the first full week of October as Alaska Disability Employment Week to celebrate and promote the integration of Alaskans with disabilities into the workforce of our State ; and
WHEREAS this celebration highlights the talent and added value to our workplace and our communities by people with disabilities, and reaffirms the commitment of the State of Alaska to all of our citizens; and
WHEREAS competitive and unified employment provides individuals with a sense of pride, financial security, stable living conditions, access to better health management and increased autonomy; and
WHEREAS Alaska is state first for jobs and our state agencies prioritize competitive and assimilated employment for all Alaskans. The state is committed to being a model employer by attracting qualified people with disabilities to contribute their knowledge and talents as public servants; and
WHEREAS the Alaska Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act allows Alaskans with disabilities to seek employment income and save, while allowing them to continue to receive essential public benefits; and
WHEREAS the State of Alaska celebrates and recognizes the talents and contributions of people with disabilities in the workplace and is committed to promoting awareness of employment opportunities for people with disabilities, recognizing this is an essential of our efforts to build an inclusive community and a strong economy throughout Alaska.
THEREFORE I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, hereby proclaim from October 3-9, 2021:
Alaska Disability Employment Week
in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans to observe this week with appropriate programs and activities, and encourage employers to hire skilled Alaskans with disabilities and to convey the important message that people with disabilities are valued in the workforce of Alaska.
